Best QB Matchups

Player Matchup Dashboard: Passing YPG

  • Baker Mayfield (O/U 262.5 passing yards) has an excellent matchup against a Detroit secondary that’s been an issue for several years and just allowed Matthew Stafford to throw for 317 yards passing with 1 TD and 1 INT on 34-49 passing in Week 1 against Washington. 2023 was a different season with different rosters and personnel, but Mayfield finished with 349 yards, 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s on 26-41 passing when he last faced Detroit in the dome in the NFC Divisional Round. The Bucs have continuity in their passing game with both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin back, and Baker Mayfield should be in line for another productive afternoon in Week 2.
  • Jared Goff (O/U 267.5 passing yards) will be facing a TB secondary that will be very short-handed without S Antoine Winfield Jr. and CB Bryce Hall; CB’s Zyon McCollum and Tykee Smith are also questionable. Tampa’s secondary ranked 30th in the league in passing YPG allowed and 31st in passes of 10+ yards allowed and could find themselves on the ropes in Week 2 against a high-powered, diversified Lions attack that ranked 3rd in YPP in 2023 and 4th in passing YPG.
  • Matthew Stafford (O/U 250.5 passing yards) will be operating behind an OL that is extremely banged up heading into Week 2, but he enjoys an optimal matchup against an ARI secondary that finished 2023 ranking 29th in YPA. Stafford finished 34-49 for 317 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT in Week 1 against Detroit even in Puka Nacua’s absence. Josh Allen threw for only 232 yards and 2 TD’s on 18-23 passing in Week 1, which equates to an efficient 10.1 YPA, and Stafford should be in position to enjoy similar efficiency in Week 2 against Arizona.

Best RB Matchups

Player Matchup Dashboard: Rushing YPG

  • JK Dobbins (O/U 55.5 rushing yards) finished Week 1 with 135 yards and a TD, including three runs of 10+ and 2 runs of 20+ against a Raiders’ defense that was slightly below average in 2023. He’ll now face a a Carolina defense that just allowed New Orleans to run for 180 yards on 37 carries (4.9 YPC) in Week 1 and was horrific against the run in in 2023, finishing 25th in both rushing YPG and runs of 10+ yards allowed.
  • Jonathan Taylor (O/U 78.5 rushing yards) did not make a significant impact in the Colts’ Week 1 matchup against Houston, but that was against a Texans’ run defense that ranked 6th in the league in rushing YPG allowed and 1st in YPC in 2023. He’ll have a much more optimal matchup in Week 2 against a Green Bay defense that allowed Philly to run for 144 yards in total and let Saquon Barkley take 24 touches for 109 yards and 2 TD’s in Week 1 in Brazil. GB ranked 28th in rushing YPG allowed and 25th in runs of 10+ yards in 2023 and demonstrated similar deficiencies in their season opener in 2024.
  • Kyren Williams (O/U 75.5 rushing yards) will face an Arizona run defense that ranked 32nd in both rushing YPG allowed and runs of 10+ yards in 2023; in two matchups with the Cardinals in 2023, Williams ran for 158 yards on 20 carries and 1 TD in their first matchup and 16 carries for 143 yards in their second. The offensive line is banged up and Stafford should have success moving the ball through the air even in Puka Nacua’s absence, but Williams should have opportunities to make a significant impact on this game against a Cardinals’ run defense that allowed opponents to go north of 200 yards rushing in 3 of their final 4 games of 2023.
  • Najee Harris (O/U 59.5 rushing yards) got 20 carries in Arthur Smith’s debut as Pittsburgh’s OC; he only took those 20 carries for 70 yards (3.5 YPC), but if he gets a similar nod in volume in Week 2 against Denver, he’ll be facing a Broncos’ rushing defense that ranks 30th in rushing YPG and 32nd in YPC in 2023. Seattle ran for 146 yards behind a strong performance from Kenneth Walker III, who ran 20 times for 103 yards (5.2 YPC) and 1 TD.

Best WR Matchups

Player Matchup Dashboard: Receiving YPG

  • Cooper Kupp (O/U 7.5 receptions; O/U 84.5 receiving yards) garnered 21 targets and caught 10 balls for 110 yards and 1 TD in Puka Nacua’s absence in Week 1 against Detroit; he’ll be the centerpiece of a Rams’ passing attack in Week 2 against an Arizona secondary that finished 29th in YPA in 2023 and allowed Josh Allen to throw for 10.1 YPA in Week 1 on the road. Without Nacua in the lineup, Kupp will certainly see a significant amount of targets and have plenty of opportunity to produce against Arizona in Week 2.
  • Rashee Rice (O/U 67.5 receiving yards) had a productive season opener against Baltimore, catching 7 balls for 103 yards on 9 targets. This is not a surprise given the addition of Xavier Worthy in the offseason, who adds a component of speed to KC’s offense that it was lacking in 2023 that can stretch the secondary and open up underneath routes. Cincy faced a horrible NE offensive unit in Week 1 and performed as such, but they ranked 27th in passing YPG and passes of 10+ yards allowed in 2023, and allowed Rice to catch 5 balls for 127 yards in Week 16 of the 2023 season. With the departure of Chidobe Awuzie, Cincy’s secondary is young and could be in for a tough day against an explosive KC offense that posted 291 yards passing against a formidable Baltimore defense in Week 1.
  • Mike Evans (O/U 68.5 receiving yards) and Chris Godwin (O/U 62.5 receiving yards) match up in Week 2 against a Detroit secondary that had trouble slowing down the Rams in Week 1 and was an issue in 2023. Evans caught 8 balls for 147 yards and 1 TD on 12 targets in the NFC Divisonal Round in Detroit earlier this year, while Godwin caught 8 balls for 83 yards and 1 TD on 8 targets in Week 1 against a Commanders’ secondary that looks to be a liability again in 2024. Either Evans or Godwin are in line for productive days in a game that should feature some significant offensive production.
  • Jameson Williams (O/U 47.5 receiving yards) was explosive in Week 1 against LA, catching 3 balls for gains of 20+ yards. finishing with 5 receptions for 121 yards and 1 TD on 9 targets. With the departure of Josh Reynolds in the offseason, Williams figures to be a more integral target in this explosive and balanced offense, and as we’ve covered previously, will be lining up against a Bucs’ secondary that is extremely banged up heading into Week 2. Williams has been dealing with an ankle injury at practice this week, but he’s been a limited participant, which typically points to a positive outlook on his availability.
