Saturday Injury Updates and Impacts to Skill Position Matchups:
- Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks will be without both CB’s Coby Bryant and Artie Burns as they head to Cincy to take on Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase in Week 6. Seattle ranks 31st in passing YPG allowed and will travel to take on a Cincy offense that passed for 317 yards through the air in Week 6, more than half of which were attributable to Jamar Chase, who caught 15 balls for 192 yards and 3 TD’s.
- Cleveland Browns: The Browns will be without Deshaun Watson and G Joel Bitonio against SF’s vaunted defense in Week 6; their starting C Ethan Pocic is also questionable as he is dealing with injuries to his chest, knee and foot. The injuries at QB and on the OL are going to present significant issues for an already impotent Cleveland offense that enters this game ranking 30th in offensive efficiency and 32nd in EPA/play without Nick Chubb to handle carries in the run game and against an SF defense that ranks 7th in defensive efficiency and 8th in EPA/play that held Dallas to just 197 yards of total offense in Week 5.
- Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals will be without their starting S Jalen Thompson and CB Garrett Williams in Week 6 against LAR’s high-powered passing attack that ranks 4th in the league in passing YPG.
- Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles will be missing DT Jalen Carter, S Justin Evans and CB Darius Slay on the road against the Jets; S Sydney Brown is also questionable, which leaves some question marks in Philly’s secondary that’s been susceptible against the pass.
- NY Giants: Much to their own dismay the Giants will be without at least three starters on offense, with QB Daniel Jones, LT Andrew Thomas and C John Michael Schmitz Jr. all ruled out. Saquon Barkley, TE Darren Waller, RT Evan Neal and backup C Shane Lemieux are all listed as questionable. All of these offensive injuries present significant concerns against a Buffalo defense that ranks 6th in defensive efficiency and 1st in QB sacks, hits and turnovers forced per game.
Best and Worst QB Matchups
Best QB Matchups
- Matthew Stafford (O/U 276.5 passing yards, FD) has an extremely juicy matchup against an Arizona secondary in Week 6 that ranks 27th in the league in passing YPG allowed at over 274, 27th in YPA and 31st in passes of 10+ yards allowed. Stafford is leading an LAR offense that ranks 5th in pass play percentage, 4th in passing YPG and 2nd in passes of 10+ yards. Opposing QB’s have cleared this number in 3 of the L4 weeks against Arizona, and given Stafford’s volume of passing and the Rams’ lack of commitment to the running game, he should have an opportunity to go for 300+ against this defense with Cooper Kupp back in the mix.
- Trevor Lawrence (O/U 254.5 passing yards, FD) will be facing a Colts secondary that has extremely young corners and has been exposed on several occasions in 2023, ranking 29th in passing YPG allowed, 26th in YPA and 27th in passes of 10+ yards. Indy’s defense is otherwise solid, while Lawrence ranks 10th in the league in passing YPG coming off a Week 5 performance in which he finished 25-37 for 315 yards and 1 TD against a strong Buffalo defense that was missing Tre’Davious White. Opposing QB’s have cleared 254.5 passing yards in 3 of the L4 weeks against Indy – CJ Stroud went for 384 yards and 2 TD’s on 30-47 passing; Matthew Stafford finished 27-40 for 319 yards and 1 TD, while Ryan Tannehill, who averages 211 passing YPG in 2023 finished 23-34 for 264 yards in Week 5.
Bad QB Matchup, Good Number
- CJ Stroud (O/U 222.5 passing yards, DKNG) has been incredibly impressive through the first 5 weeks of his rookie season, ranking 3rd in the league in passing yards with 292 per game. He’ll face one of the toughest tests of his young career against New Orleans’ secondary that ranks 3rd in passing YPG and 4th in both YPA and passes of 10+ yards. That said, New Orleans has faced a number of bottom tier QB’s that include Ryan Tannehill (16-34, 198 yards), Bryce Young (22-33, 153 yards) and Mac Jones (12-22, 110 yards) that have an influence on their passing defense metrics. Jordan Love (22-44, 259 yards, 1 TD) and Baker Mayfield (25-32, 246 yards, 3 TD’s) have both cleared this low total, and Stroud’s season average sits at 33% above where his total is priced and he has cleared this total in each start in 2023.
Worst QB Matchups
- Brock Purdy (O/U 207.5 passing yards, DKNG) is off one of the most impressive performances of his career against Dallas on SNF in which he finished 20-21 for 252 yards and 4 TD’s. He and the 49ers head to Cleveland in Week 5 to face a Jim Schwartz led defense that ranks 1st in defensive efficiency, YPP allowed, 3rd down conversion rate, passing YPG and passes of 10+ yards allowed with inclement weather in the forecast that includes winds of 18+ MPH whipping off Lake Erie.
Best RB Matchups
- Raheem Mostert (O76.5 rushing yards, FD) has an excellent matchup against a Panthers’ run defense that ranks 26th in rushing YPG allowed and 28th in YPC and runs of 10+ yards. Mostert will be the lead back in Miami’s top-ranked rushing offense in Week 6 with De’Von Achane heading to the IR against a Panthers’ defense that has allowed Tyler Allgeier and Bijan Robinson to go for 131 yards on 25 carries in Week, Tayson Hill, Tony Jones Jr. and Jamaal Williams to combine for 141 yards on 30 carries in Week 2, Kenneth Walker II and Zach Charbonnet to combine for 143 yards on 27 carries in Week 3, Alexander Mattison and Cam Akers to combine for 135 yards on 22 carries in Week 4 and David Montgomery and Craig Reynolds to go for 163 yards on 26 carries in Week 5
- D’Andre Swift (O66.5 rushing yards) will have an excellent opportunity to turn in another big performance against a talented Jets’ defense that struggles in the running game, ranking 29th in rushing YPG allowed, 25th in YPC and 28th in runs of 10+ yards. Swift has emerged as the lead back in a Philly offense that ranks 2nd in rushing YPG that will likely look to take a lead and sit on it in the second half. Dallas backs combined for 114 yards on 35 carries in Week 2, while Zeke and Rhamondre Stevenson paired up for 139 yards on 35 carries in Week 3. Isiah Pacheco went for 115 yards on 20 carries and a TD in Week 4. Swift has cleared this number in 3 of his last four games, going for 130 and 175 against the Bucs and Vikings respectively; he is averaging 19 carries per game over that stretch.
- Kenneth Walker III (O68.5 rushing yards, FD) will be facing a Cincy run defense that ranks 31st in rushing YPG allowed with over 154per game, 29th in YPC and 5.4 and 32nd in runs of 10+ yards in Week 6. Walker has cleared this number in each of his last two starts. Arizona backs combined for 141 yards on the ground on just 19 carries after James Conner left the game with a leg injury in the first half with 6 carries for 46 yards, while Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears combined for 164 yards on 27 carries in Week 4.
- James Cook (O58.5 rushing yards, DKNG) will face an awful Giants’ run defense on SNF that ranks 25th in rushing YPG allowed, 31st in YPC and 25th in runs of 10+ yards. Cook is averaging 58.5 rushing YPG this season, but off two really bad weeks against the Jags (5th in rushing YPG, 10th in YPC) and Dolphins (18th in rushing YPG) defenses that are not near the league’s bottom. Cook has been explosive this season and is averaging 4.8 YPC – expect him to outperform his average output against one of the three worst defenses in the league that’s allowed the opposition’s top back to clear this number in every game this season.
Worst RB Matchups
- Breece Hall (O/U 53.5 rushing yards, DKNG) matches up with Philly’s elite run defense that is holding opponents to just 61 yards on the ground in total per game (1st in the league) and ranks 3rd in YPC (3.4 yards) and 2nd in runs of 10+ yards. Hall was excellent in Week 5 in Denver, but that was against a Broncos’ run defense that ranked 32nd in rushing YPG allowed. Hall is going to have a tough time moving the ball on the ground against Jordan Davis and company, who have not allowed an opposing back to clear this number in 2023.
- David Montgomery (O/U 78.5 rushing yards, FD) is the bellcow in Detroit’s offense and was excellent in Week 5 against Carolina’s bottom 5 run defense, but he’ll be facing a TB defense that ranks 9th in rushing YPG and 2nd in runs of 10+ yards in Week 6. Exclude TB’s MNF matchup against the Eagles in Week 3 and TB is holding opponents’ to 59 yards in total per game this season. Montgomery has been extremely efficient the last two weeks, but his production has come against a Carolina defense that ranks 26th in rushing YPG allowed and a Green Bay defense that ranks 27th.
Best WR Matchups
- Puka Nacua (O/U 66.5 receiving yards, FD) and Cooper Kupp (O/U 86.5 receiving yards, FD) are both off strong performances against Philly in which they demonstrated that there’s enough targets for both of them – Kupp finished with 8 catches for 118 yards on 11 targets, while Puka caught 7 balls for 71 yards. They exist in and contribute to a Rams’ offense that ranks 5th in the league in pass play percentage, 4th in passing YPG and 2nd in passes of 10+ yards with an excellent matchup against a Cardinals secondary that’s been brutal against the pass and enters Week 6 ranking 27th in passing YPG allowed at over 274, 27th in YPA and 31st in passes of 10+ yards. Matthew Stafford threw the ball 37 times and targeted Kupp and Nacua a total of 23 times.
- Jamar Chase (O/U 89.5 receiving yards, DKNG) told reporters after Week 4 that he is always open and proceeded to catch 15 balls for 192 yards and 3 TD’s against Arizona. He enters the game averaging 95 receiving yards per game and has cleared this number twice in the L3 weeks as Burrow continues to get healthy. Cincy will be facing a Seattle secondary that is allowing 305 passing YPG (31st in league) and ranks 24th in passes of 10+ yards allowed. Chase ranks 3rd in the league in targets per game and 2nd in total targets behind only Puka Nacua – he should have every opportunity to clear this number once again at home against Seattle in Week 6, especially when you consider that Seattle will likely be without CBs Coby Bryant and Artie Burns, both of whom are listed as doubtful as of Saturday.
