Saturday Injury Updates and Impacts to Skill Positions

  • Pittsburgh Steelers: Pittsburgh will be without both starting safeties as Minkah Fitzpatrick misses his third straight game with a hamstring injury and Keanu Neal has a rib injury. Dorian Thompson-Robinson finished just 19-36 for 121 yards and 3 INT’s in his only career start against the Ravens, but he’ll have an opportunity to move the ball against a Steelers’ secondary that ranks 27th in passing YPG allowed and 28th in passes of 10+ yards allowed.
  • Miami Dolphins: Mike McDaniel is optimistic that De’Von Achane will be back from injury against the Raiders, which would be a significant boost for MIA’s 2nd ranked rushing attack that will be facing a Raiders defense that ranks 30th in rushing YPG, YPC and runs of 10+ yards allowed in 2023.

Player Matchup Dashboard: QB Passing Yards

Best QB Matchups

Passing Splits Dashboard: Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy (O257.5 passing yards, FD) will be facing a Bucs’ secondary that ranks 31st in passing YPG allowed (285.3 per game), 26th in YPA and 29th in passes of 10+ yards that has allowed Jalen Hurts (23-38, 277 yards), Jared Goff (30-44, 353 yards), Josh Allen (31-40, 324 yards) and CJ Stroud (30-42, 470 yards) to have significant success over the L7 weeks. Opposing QB’s are averaging 319 passing YPG against this TB secondary over the L5 weeks, which includes Stroud’s 470-yard performance. Even when you exclude Stroud’s performance, opposing QB’s are averaging 285 passing YPG in the other four games.

Pat Mahomes (O/U 284.5 passing yards, FD) leads a KC offense that ranks 7th in passing YPG, 9th in YPA and 8th in passes of 10+ yards in a matchup on MNF with a Philly secondary that has been their weak link on defense all season and ranks 30th in passing YPG and 32nd in passes of 10+ yards. Sam Howell (39-52, 397 yards, 4 TD’s) and Dak Prescott (29-44, 374 yards, 3 TD’s) have had significant success against this secondary in Weeks 8 and 9, and there’s every indication that Mahomes will have an opportunity to do the same behind an OL that ranks 2nd in sacks allowed on the season. Over the L4 weeks, Mahomes has thrown for 306 yards in his first matchup with DEN’s 28th ranked secondary, 424 yards against LAC’s 32nd ranked secondary and 241 yards in his second matchup with DEN where he was battling flu.

Worst QB Matchups

Josh Allen (O/U 237.5 passing yards, FD) faces a Jets secondary in Week 11 that ranks 3rd in passing YPG allowed, 2nd in YPA and 2nd in passes of 10+ yards. Allen has had many bad games in 2023 due to his affinity for turning the ball over, but his Week 1 performance against the Jets was one of the ugliest, where he finished 29-41 for 236 passing yards, 1 TD and 3 INT’s, lost a fumble and recovered a fumble. The Jets rank 5th in the league on defense in turnovers forced, facing the most turnover positive offense in the league that’s giving the ball to their opponents.

Player Matchup Dashboards: Rushing YPG

Best RB Matchups

Raheem Mostert (O54.5 rushing yards, FD) has a great matchup against a Raiders’ running defense that ranks 30th in rushing YPG, YPC and runs of 10+ yards just allowed. D’Onta Foreman (16 carries, 89 yards, 2 TDs) and Darrynton Evans (14 carries, 48 yards) to run free in Week 7, Jahmyr Gibbs (26 carries, 152 yards, 1 TD) to do the same in Week 8 and Saquon Barkley (16 carries, 90 yards) to provide the only piece of effective offense the Giants could generate in Week 9. It looks like De’Von Achane will be back in Week 11, but that’s no guarantee that he’ll get a significant share of carries or pick up where he left off against the Giants in Week 5, where he ran 11 times for 151 yards and a TD. Mostert should have plenty of opportunity to clear this number  against one of the worst run defenses in the league at home.

Austin Ekeler (O/U 52.5 receiving yards, DKNG) faces a Green Bay rushing defense that ranks 26th in the league in rushing YPG allowed (134 per game) and 27th in runs of 10+ yards allowed. Jaylen Warren (15 carries, 101 yards, 1 TD) and Najee Harris (16 carries, 82 yards, 1 TD) just dropped 183 yards on Green Bay at home in Week 10, while Javonte Williams (15 carries, 82 yards), David Montgomery (32 carries, 121 yards, 3 TD’s) and Bijan Robinson (19 carries, 124 yards) have all had significant success against this run defense in 2023.

Worst RB Matchups

David Montgomery (O/U 48.5 rushing yards, FD) will face a Chicago defense that ranks 2nd in rushing YPG, 1st in YPC and 7th in runs of 10+ yards allowed. Montgomery and Gibbs combined for 193 yards on the ground against the Chargers last weekend, but they’ll be facing stronger headwinds against a Chicago defense that has been stout against the run. This is not to say Montgomery can’t grind out some production, but this is not the most optimal matchup for Detroit backs against a CHI defense that held Carolina to just 43 total rushing yards in Week 10 and Alvin Kamara to just 26 yards on 9 carries a week prior.

Isiah Pacheco (O/U 48.5 rushing yards, FD) will face an Eagles’ run defense that ranks 1st in rushing YPG allowed (67 per game), 7th in YPC and 1st in run of 10+ yards. Philly held Dallas to just 73 yards total in Week 9, and KC will likely look to attack the Eagles’ secondary that has been extremely susceptible against the pass all season.

Player Matchup Dashboard: Receiving YPG

Best WR Matchups

Brandon Aiyuk (O68.5 receiving yards, DKNG) faces a Bucs secondary that ranks 31st in passing YPG allowed (285.3 per game), 26th in YPA and 29th in passes of 10+ yards. Three Texans WR’s cleared 100 yards against the Bucs in Week 9 in CJ Stroud’s 470-yard performance, while Khalil Shakir, Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs all cleared this number the week prior in Buffalo’s high-powered passing attack. If Purdy has success exploiting TB’s suspect secondary, Aiyuk will likely have a significant role in doing so.

Travis Kelce (O/U 73.5 receiving yards, FD) will likely be the lead target in a KC offense that’s matchup up with a Philly secondary that ranks 30th in passing YPG and 32nd in passes of 10+ yards. Jake Ferguson (DAL TE) caught 7 balls for 91 yards and a TD in Week 9 against Philly’s defense that just lost Nakobe Dean to the IR. If the Eagles’ DL can’t get to Mahomes quickly against an OL that ranks 2nd in the league in sacks allowed, Kelce will have opportunities to pick up significant chunk yardage against this secondary off the bye.

Receiving Splits Dashboard: TJ Hockenson

TJ Hockenson (O54.5 receiving yards, FD) has been excellent over the L4 weeks in Jefferson’s absence and has an established relationship with Josh Dobbs from working out together in the offseason. Justin Jefferson has been ruled out for MIN in Week 11, and Hockenson has an excellent matchup against a Denver secondary that ranks 23rd in passing yards allowed and 31st in TE receiving yards allowed.
